The course aims are to provide the delegates with the knowledge and understanding of health & safety to manage key issues within their teams and organisations. The course will give them the knowledge and tools to tackle the health & safety issues they’re responsible for. Importantly, it brings home just why health & safety is such an important part of their job.

to manage health and safety in accordance with the company’s safety policy and
health and safety legislation.

Why it is important to manage safety and your responsibilities as a manager
Risk assessments, types of risk assessment and how to do them
Risk controls, safe systems of work, personal protective equipment
Understanding responsibilities - requirements of the law, RIDDOR, health and safety management systems
Common hazards in the workplace e.g. chemicals, workstations, working at height, fire, noise, manual handling, stress, etc.
Identifying basic, underlying and root causes of accidents; reporting and investigating accidents
Measuring performance—What it means, how to measure health and safety performance, and auditing
Impact of industry, controlling waste and pollution and environmental management systems
Multiple choice exam at the end of day 4, and a risk assessment project to be completed within 2 weeks of the end of the course
