Dust and Fume Risk Assessments

Dust and Fume Risk Assessments

Dust and Fume Risk Assessments
(Sometimes referred to as dust and fume sampling)
What does the law require?
The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (CoSHH) Regulations require employers to prevent worker exposure to hazardous substances or, where this is not reasonably practicable, to ensure adequate control.

Examples include:
Solder fumes
Welding fumes
Wood dust
Diesel fumes
Silica in sand
Cement

Employees are required to make full and proper use of the control measures provided and to report any defects in them promptly to their employer.

Assessing the risks to health from dust and fumes
To assess the risks from exposure to dust and fumes you need answers to the following questions:
Who is exposed and to what?
To how much and for how long?
From where?
How are dust and fumes controlled?

How can RSP Safety help?
We can come to your site and carry out a dust risk assessment, and/or a fume risk assessment by taking samples - these are then sent off to a lab for analysis. From these results and our observations, we will provide a report of findings with recommendations for making your workplace a safer place.
